The Cable Show Wrap-Up

We’ve caught up on our sleep and calmed down from the excitement The Cable Show had to offer, so this is the perfect time to share our experience.

The show floor looked amazing in the iconic Boston Convention centre, with approximately 12,000 industry professionals in attendance. Imagine Park created conversation around communication and the show was even surprised by a flash mob! Among the traditional celebrity appearances, the Cable Show was all about the evolution of conventional cable going beyond the walls of your home, and creating mobile content that can be accessed anywhere. Consumers are mobile, and they want to take their ‘couch media’ with them! As we talked about previously, instant messaging is a natural addition to any service, which allows for increased sharing and community building.

We had some interesting conversations with several companies around our Eyeball Messenger client software and its related developer kit (SDK). It seems MSO’s are embarking down new service development paths and looking for tools to reach their goals. Service evolution was on everyone’s mind.

The other point that became clearly obvious to us during the show was in order to deliver this new cable experience, cable players will have to focus on partnerships. This was well illustrated with the joint announcement at the show by Time Warner, Cox and Comcast who have partnered up to offer a collective 50,000 WiFi hotspots under a new brand, CableWiFi.

However they get there the cable industry is heading in for big change and we’re happy that offerings like Eyeball’s carrier-grade voice and video, IM and NAT Traversal solutions will be part of the evolution.

On your way out, don’t forget to check out our pictures from the show.

We’re Going to The Cable Show 2012!

Last year's Headliner: Oprah, The Cable Show 2011

‘Tis the season for tradeshows and Eyeball Networks begins the spring run May 21-23 at The Cableshow 2012 in Boston, MA.

The Cableshow is 61 years strong (has cable really been around that long? Well, yes it has!). The show is home to everything cable including stars, exciting new content and the challenges that are defining the future of the cable industry. This years speakers list boasts notable names such as Motorola Mobility’s lead IP architect Gerard White, Verizon Wireless President & CEO Dan Mead, and of course, the ultimate cable funnyman, Conan O’Brien.

Hot topics this year will be the continued explosion of mobile devices, the internet and the challenges (and opportunities) they both pose to the traditional cable industry. Expect focus on newcomers to the market, how they are changing the competitive landscape, and how incumbents are working to enhance and roll out new services for their customers.

Along with the growing demand for on-the-go content, service providers should be looking for new ways to bring enhanced connectivity to their subscribers. (We thought you’d never ask) Eyeball’s Messenger SDK lends itself to several possibilities, such as subscriber to subscriber chat features on mobile devices for armchair coaches to debate the live game, or chatty viewers of The Real Housewives of Vancouver to scrutinize whatever outrageous thing Jody just said.

Whatever network providers come up with to enhance their service, Eyeball will be there with carrier-grade voice and video quality, and guaranteed NAT traversal to complete the offering.

We’re looking forward to being there seeing all the show has to offer. Make sure to come visit us at booth 2066 for a chance to win a BlackBerry® Playbook™!
